Frugal Family: The Cheapest Extra-Large Pizza in Town

Patch finds a weekly great deal in the area that caters to local moms.

George Georgeantonis does things big.

As the owner of A Little Taste of Italy, his subs are over-stuffed, his manicotti is fat, and his pizza deal is huge.  It’s not the small personal pizzas he runs his best specials on.  It’s not the mediums or the larges either.  It’s the extra-large cheese pizza, that’s as cheap as you’re ever going to find.

At A Little Taste of Italy, which many of us know as the old Whistlestop, right at the train tracks 401 West Seminary Ave., Saturdays and Mondays are the days for a $6.99 extra-large, 16-inch cheese pizza. His everyday lunch special, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., is an 8-inch sub for $5.50. We dare you to go back to Subway after you’ve tried one of his sandwiches.

Georgeantonis is a perfectionist. Unhappy with the downward turn his restaurant took after he hired employees, Georgeantonis has gone back to relying on only himself and a few family members who help out. A Little Taste of Italy is now closed on Sundays to give him a day off. The entire place is undergoing a face-lift—the chairs are newly upholstered, the tile floor is being replaced, and of course Georgeantonis is still rebuilding the front of the restaurant where a

Once you’ve availed yourself of the cheap pizza days, splurge on a loaded Greek pizza. It’s Georgeantonis’s secret recipe.
