GRAB & GO KIDS PLANNER: Outdoor Theater, Festivals and Harry Potter

A roundup of family-friendly activities for you and your kids to try this weekend.

 

THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE 

When/Where: June 25 from 8 to 11 p.m. at the Patapsco Female Institute Historic Park, Ellicot City, MD (see website for directions).

Why Go: Bring(eth) a picnic and thy family to this romp. It’s a comedy revue meant for both expert and novice Shakespeare fans alike.  This show marks the ninth season of Shakespeare in the Ruins. It’s a fortnight and a few pence for a pound of laughter.

Price: Adults $32, kids under 18, Free

 

MONTPELIER SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

When/Where: Fridays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 9652 Muirkirk Road & Route 197, Laurel, MD.

Why Go: Bring a picnic and a blanket and catch wonderful music on a summer’s eve. A variety of music and theatre will dazzle you throughout the summer. This Friday it’s the Oracle Band, playing hits from the 40s to today.

Price:  Free

 

LATINO FEST

When/Where: Saturday, June 25  from noon to 10 p.m., Sunday, June 26 from noon to 9 p.m. at Patterson Park, Baltimore, MD.

Why Go: In it’s 31st year, this festival celebrates Hispanic Culture this weekend in Baltimore. There will be music, art and lots of great activities for the family. Bands performing on several stages and dancers will enliven the day as you shop the many vendors and enjoy the foods. See the website for more details.

Price: Adults $5,  children under 12 are free.

 

MID-SUMMER FAIRE

When/Where: June 25 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Historic St. Mary’s City & Route 5 in St. Mary’s City, MD.

Why Go: It’s a day of 17th Century merriment, which you haven’t seen since the late 1600s, so it’s been a while. Enjoy hands on games, music and entertainment inspired by Maryland’s colonial history. Jugglers, wooden-horse jousting and races are a few of the family friendly things to do there. 

Price: $10 adults, $6 kids 6 -18, children under 6 are free.

 

GREAT AMERICAN BACKYARD CAMPOUT FOR BEGINNERS

When/Where: Saturday, June 25 starting at 5 p.m. to Sunday, June 26 ending at 10 a.m. at Otter Point Creek, 700 Otter Point Road, Abingdon, MD 21009.

Why Go: Tired of paying hotel prices, but don’t know how to camp? Here’s your chance to pitch a tent with a guide. Join a naturalist and your family and campout at the Estuary Center while you learn the skills for camping in the easy going outdoors. Reservations required and dinner and breakfast ingredients are provided, but it seems the cooking is up to you.

Price: $40 family of 5

HARRY POTTER KIDS COMEDY SUNDAY 

When/Where:  Sunday June 26 at 1 p.m. (door open at noon) at Magooby's Joke House, 9603 Deereco Road, Timonium, MD 21093. 

Why Go: Have a magical afternoon out with the family as Hogwarts professor Severus Snape performs tricks and brews potions. Come early for free face painting. 

Price: $10 at the door.
