GREAT ESCAPE: The Vagina Monologues

Patch finds a fun parents' night out each week so you can keep your babysitters employed!

Entering a world where violence against women is highlighted is not much of an escape, especially for your special night out. But by braving the subject matter, you are helping local women escape from exactly such a world.

Plus, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you might learn a thing or two.

Your husband definitely will.

Towson University’s Feminist Collective presents The Vagina Monologues, the play that has been turning the world of theater on its ear since 1994. The Vagina Monologues, a collection of soliloquies based on author Eve Ensler’s interviews with dozens of women, focuses on sexuality, rape and abuse.

Towson University performs The Vagina Monologues every year in celebration of V-Day, a worldwide anti-violence movement. V-Day, as its website states, has a simple mission: “It demands that violence against women and girls must end.”

Profits from the ticket sales will benefit The Family Crisis Center of Baltimore County, a local organization that provides safe housing and advocacy for victims of domestic violence. When you pay for your $8 ticket at the Towson University Union, you can also drop off a clothing donation.

Even better, you can buy a chocolate vagina lollipop at the door. Come on, activism aside, this play essentially celebrates women. It can’t be all serious.

Student-directed and student-performed, The Vagina Monologues will be performed from Monday, March 14 to Wednesday, March 16. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the University Union Ticket Office and can also be bought at the door before the show. The show is performed at Towson University’s Potomac Lounge.

Come support these passionate and talented young people on stage. They join a network of more than 5,400 V-Day benefit events around the world, bringing a fresh perspective with young, proud and unafraid voices, daring to end violence against women.

But eat your lollipop before you get home. You don’t want the babysitter seeing that.
