Highway Administration Resurfacing Segments of I-83

Plan for extra travel time if you're going from Baltimore County to Baltimore City.

The Maryland State Highway Administration will be resurfacing parts of Interstate 83, among other stretches of road, between now and July, according to a release.

Drivers should plan for extra travel time at nights. Single and double lane closures starting this week will begin after 7 and 10 p.m., respectively.

Most affected routes, from the release, include:

  • Southbound I-83 between Old Pimlico Road and the Baltimore City line weeknights, Sunday, June 24 through Thursday, June 28.
  • Northbound I-83 between the Baltimore City line and Old Pimlico Road, Sunday July 1, Monday July 2 and Thursday, July 5.  No work will occur July 3 or July 4.

Gray & Son, Inc., of Timonium, was awarded the $5.8 million contract, which also affects Interstate 70, Interstate 95, Interstate 195, MD 295, Interstate 695 and Interstate 795.

"As crews strive to keep work zones safe, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers," the release states. "Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone."
