Kamenetz Issues Statement on Beating of Woman in Rosedale McDonald's

County Executive calls attack "an isolated incident" that serves "as a wake-up call that we all have a role to play in moving society forward."

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz issued a statement today regarding the attack on Chrissy Polis, a transgender woman, in a Rosedale McDonald's.

"Last week's beating of Chrissy Lee Polis in Rosedale once again reminds us of our responsibility as citizens to do all that we can to ensure that our neighborhoods provide a safe and welcoming environment for residents and visitors. Although this vicious attack was an isolated incident and in no way reflects on the Baltimore County or Rosedale communities, it does serve as a wake-up call that we all have a role to play in moving society forward. It is the conversations around our dinner tables and the casual chatter among friends that develop patterns of behavior. Each and every one of us plays a role in deciding what kind of a society we deserve and what kind of a society we will help create. I have every confidence that Police Chief Jim Johnson and State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger will address this matter professionally, as they address all issues of public safety in Baltimore County. But it is not only their responsibility to make us safe and secure. That responsibility is shared by each of us who call Baltimore County home."

About this column: Bryan P. Sears has been covering Baltimore County politics and government for more than a decade.

The same 18 year old who administered this vicious beating was also arrested and charged with assault for an incident in the exact same McDonald's and the geniuses in charge of public safety dropped the charges. No wonder Baltimore and it's surrounding areas are such a mess.

Agree with all above!! Kamenetz - you're a fine politician....you've learned to use a whole lot of words to say nothing at all. Of course it's a reflection on the community. for exactly the reasons Kathy said... C'mon!! The attackers are 18 and 14!!! Children!!! They are a PRODUCT of the community. This is disgusting!!!

How can this idiot say this is an isolated incidence and doesn't reflect Rosedale or Baltimore County. Does this ass know how dangerous the highschool has become? That McDonalds was like south central on the weekends at night. Kamenetz I suggest you get in your car and take a ride through some of the best parts of Rosedale (Garden Village, etc.) and get a clue about what's really going on.

Ron, someone from Patch should track that brave lady down and do a story on her.

It took a lot of guts to get involved in something like that.

Is Kamenetz a word in a foreign language that means "doofus" in English?

I hope the feds take this one on as a hate crime (which it obviously was, whether what these 2 cows hated about the victim was that she is white or that she's transgendered...or, hmm, maybe both?)and the 18 year old at least does some serious federal time. No parole in the federal system. They beat this woman until she was on the floor seizing, for heaven's sake! And ever single employee who was there that day should get the sack.

The man said a whole lot of nothing. Just means everyone can go back to being rednecks and haters.
These low-lifes should get the book thrown at them. The whole school system needs sensitivity
training and to start teaching people to respect other human beings. It has to start with the kids, the parents are lost causes. God help us all.

I'm in good company. Now these are my kind of people. Leave it to a politician who is an expert at pandering. The problem is these people are smarter than that.

What kind of spin is Chief Johnson going to put on this? I remember he said we are as safe in Baltimore County as we were in the 70's.

I guess that is why street cops call headquarters the puzzle-palace.

Everything in the county is a deal; land deal, plea deal, lets make a deal, a good deal if you know the right person.

The great thing about reading the true voice of the people, is that no politician is going to pull the wool over their eyes. Apparently Kamenetz doesn't know who he is dealing with.

I really don't understand what the previous comments are talking about. Kamenetz says he was appalled. So was I. He says we all have a role to play in creating a better society. Seems pretty clear to me-- once again I agree. He says that he believes the Police Chief and State's Attorney will do a good job. Their record speaks for itself. And most importantly, he suggest that it's how we act in our daily lives that sets examples for others. Seems pretty clear to me that he was disgusted by what happened. Patch clearly has a handful of people who voted for another candidate and want to play the election every day. Come on people, give it a break.

Good for you Nolan. I thought I was on another planet when I read some of these comments. You left out the fact that Kamenitz said the beating didn't reflect the community-- some of these people disagree-- they are insulting all of the hard working people who live in Rosedale-- shame on them. The best part is Buzz talking about "deals" after he ripped the county off for a quarter of a million dollar buyout to leave the police. He's living high on the hog talking about deals. What does the TV commercial say???? Priceless.

Nice name, very patriotic, has a certain charm. I figured it wouldn't be long before the political hacks came out and sang the political praise of Kamenetz, even though you and Nolan are slightly out of tune.

Lets see now, one post at 7:07 a.m. and the other at 7:16 a.m. Make sure your not late for work. Also make sure you don't use a county computer on the taxpayers dime.

By the way, I want to thank you both for my pension. That goes for Fred Homan to.

Pass this on to your boss. I had 39 years of service AND WAS FORCED OUT by hacks like both of you.

When I ran for office I was the ONLY CANDIDATE that promised to change the bloated pension system. I was the only candidate that proposed a comprehensive rat eradication program.

Every prediction I made is now part of the landscape of the county, including section 8 and illegal immigration. I guess you both read my response to rayparkville on Patch's article about Hariston.

Oh, and I want to thank FOP President Cole Weston for my pension. You see Cole would not stand up for me and fight the county. My life and career did not count. So you can thank Homan for that one to.

I would have stayed on that job until I died. By the way, did you tell the people that is why they canned me, because I dropped dead, IN THE LINE OF DUTY!

Did you tell the people out there that the Justice Department is investigating the county on similar issues like what they did to me.

Back to work now guys!

Why do you guys even comment on these morons?? They wake up angry. They go through the day angry. They go to bed angry. They aren't worth the effort. Did they see the decent people who showed up at the rally last night speaking out against the violence? Buzz and his bomb throwers-- what a group.

Bridget, I'm not quite sure about the bomb throwing. How many rally's have you seen in the city to stop the violence. The killing goes on and on. Rally's are good, but whats even better is people showing up at the polls and voting. It seems there is not much interest in that.

Am I angry, you bet. I see the county I grew up in slipping away because of pandering politicians.

Interesting how you mention me. Let's see, this was your first comment on Patch. Nolan has two and John Adams has three.

Who are the morons you speak of? Why weren't you posting long before this? With all that's going on in this county and you claim to be so righteous and this is the only comment you've made.

I had 39 years of attempting to stop the violence in this county. You've got one comment!

Gotta love Kamenetz - both a day late and a dollar short with his feelings on the matter
You'd think a Democrat like that would have been all over this last week.
Waiting until after the support rally last night to say something meaningless. That's typically Republican strategy - The "OH WAIT I really need to say something here?"

I don't feel like I painted the Republican party (generically speaking) favorably there either :)

I also disagree about Kamenetz not being qualified for the job he holds. He's plenty qualified. I just felt he was a questional choice based on his platform. This amazing delay in response to this unfortunate and sad event is not only disappointing, but surprising to me, that's all.

Not to get off topic, but you don't feel that he screwed his own constituents with that Alcohol tax? Couldn't he have voted it down and implemented a county tax so the monies could be used to actually help Baltimore County?

Why don't you explain to the people how that can happen. One group complains about my pension and you say I was fired by the county. You can't have a pension if you were terminated.

Still throwing rocks from the shadows. I notice you aren't working. You still don't want to be a citizen like one of you comments implied? You still think all Americans are lazy?

Jennifer, thank you. You are correct, this should be about the victim and the crime. I am a target because I'm a threat to upset the apple cart.

Jennifer I can handle anything they throw at me. Our county is changing and not for the better. I will keeping writing about the truth.

I want to see justice done and I know how the system operates, and that is what I'm concerned about. As we see far to often in the criminal justice system is more about plea deals than closure for the victim.

At least our voices will serve notice to the authorities that we are watching.

You just don't have the capabilities to engage in issues that are above your head.

The union you speak of is the FOP and they did not support me in either of the issues. If you payed attention instead of playing in the sand box, or if you went to work and did something constructive, you wouldn't have time to make lame comments without doing your homework.

Go back to the shadows you hide behind. When you grow up and become a man, your comments might have some validity.

This issue was over what these women/girls thought was a "man" in the ladies room. While there is never any reason for such violence, a negative reaction is somewhat expected. This event highlights was I think is a fundamental issue in revoking the "don't ask don't tell" rules in the military. Would you feel comfortable in the bathroom - essentially - with someone of the opposite sexual orientation? Not me.

Gary - you chose the perfect words! 'Sexual Orientation'! ORIENTATION! Exactly! The person in question defines themself as a woman. She uses the bathroom that she feels most comfortable with. She's not going in to pick up other ladies. Do you propose we have bathrooms for straight men, straight women, gay men, gay women, transgender men, transgender women? Do you really think that everyone is always attracted to everyone else of the opposite sex?

Diane, I think, and I may be wrong but many times say at the ball park during a sporting event and the restroom lines are very long women will use the men's room and vice-versa.

Then you have situations when a parent of a small child may have to use the other gender's facilities.

For anyone to imply that this issue somehow negated the brutality of this crime is a stretch.

Bd when I grew up disrespect meant not replying to an adult by saying yes or no sir or mam.

This is a brutal assault and hate crime carried out by criminals. It is what it is.

I'm reading between your lines and I think you are missing the accountability issue. Disrespect and committing a felony aren't in the same zip code.

PappaKapp007

8:59 am on Thursday, April 28, 2011

How about this...It is not the severity of punishment that acts as a deterent, it's the certainty of punishment that acts as a deterent. the only way to make this stop is to make sure that every violent criminal is hunted like a dog. Then when captured there are no plea deals, no good conduct time and no parole for violent crimes. Start sending this message - We WILL catch you and you Will be punished. We WILL each and every time. Speaches and rallies are not intended to make a difference. They are intended to pacify the masses while avoiding the hard work of making a difference. Let's face facts. We have a death penalty in many states but murder continues. Because the "certainty of punishment" component does not exist. I know that there are witnesses. They are shown on the security cameras watching. Arrest them and hold them until they co operate. We all must wake up every day with the conviction that this will not stand. Until then none of us are safe.

If any woman sees a man in the ladies room, how does she know that the intruder is just preferring to be a woman and is not some pervert in woman's clothing. Any man in drag, should look for a unisex private toilet or hold his water until he is able to find private quarters. I myself would take great exception to some man lurking in a rest room and perhaps assaulting my wife. Considering the number of perverts on the loose, I would not like one of them in drag in the men's room either. I amy be sexist, but if the sign says men or women, that is what it means.

Bill, I would say your concern is a valid one. I would also say that as a civilized society when anyone witnesses what they perceive is potential criminal conduct the proper response is to call the police.

The only exception would be in a life or death situation where an immediate intervention is called for. That decision would have to be made by the person who is witnessing such an event.

I think if you view the video you will find your answer and I also think you might agree this is outside the realm of the actual facts as we know them.

"civilized society" In Baltimore City and, now, bleeding into the county, this is a joke. Civilized people know the difference between right and wrong and understand that there are consequences for their actions. Sociopaths are clueless about all of that. So you just keep voting for Democrats. Then buy a full-body kevlar suit.
