Well the family finally won their battle to screw up another persons life because their family member got killed being a smart guy with his friends, who throws rocks at peoples houses and expect nothing to happen to them. This guy ran and got caught and in the following battle got killed by a trained cop who better know how to defend himself against others or the battle would be lost to the unlawful walking our streets. Its a shame the man died but I would not ever think it as on purpose but an accident as i'm sure the cop was pissed.

if he was such a good kid like his mother said ,why was he out looking for trouble,i dont believe a word his friend said about him, not being involved.there the ones that got him into trouble.and if they cared so much about him,how come those friends who were with him dont turn there selves in,and admit they were the ones throwing rocks...you know why..because they have done this before...except one of them died this time.......its not the officers fault,he was home minding his own business,they should have been home doing the same thing

This is not similar to Trayvon Martin. This "kid"was throwing rocks through windows. As a person who has had thier car hit with bricks multiple times I can tell you that if I ever tcaught someone doing that I would be anngryt and try to restrain them until the cops came. If they died I wouldn't expect to be charged with murder. These parents and civil rights activist should spend more time teaching their children to respect themselves and others instead of just defending them for their wrong doings.

In the " heat of the moment" you dont know what you wil do. maybe you would have enough self restraint to just detain the kid, what if a struggle ensued? you dont know what you will do til it happens, when I chased the culprit out of my shed last summer I wanted to stop him so he would get caught,,,,so yes I was trying to "hold him" for the police when he got in his vehicle I broke out his car window, if a pices of galss would have severed his throat or made him crash or something,my conscience would be clear....of course the off duty would not be justified just wrestling th kid to the ground and choking him ,,, but you dont know if thats what went down,,,,,,,,,, just as in Fla you have tried and convicted this man before the trail has even begun ! wheres your logic ? suppose that guy I caught in my shed last summer stopped to fight as I was chasing him then Id have to hurt him to save my own life (That 's what may have happened in Fla) again how big was this kid in this case ? any body know? A properly trained police officer would never have killed a young man like this...he would have apprehended him as taught.....he should have called the police.

Robin, read the article again. The thug was 17, not 15, and old enough to know better. You say "kids are going to be kids"? Does that mean we should tolerate kids disrespecting others by destroying property? I don't remember going around and participating in such behavior when I was a kid. My parents taught me to respect others and not to bother other people. I guess in your world its okay for kids to act like thugs, at least until they encounter the wrong person and get their a$$ beat or worse, get killed. But then people like you will just get a lawyer and go on TV and tell everyone how your son was a good kid who never did any wrong.

There are a lot of unknowns with this case. But one thing is crystal clear - a young man, a CHILD, regardless of his size in comparison to the officer, was strangled and is dead today. We do not know that he was a 'thug'... or that he was even the person throwing rocks at someone's house. He could have just been an innocent bystander who became afraid when this irate person came barging out of his house and creating a ruckus about something. A young person with limited life experience maybe wouldn't know to NOT run ... Instinct says run like hell in that situation! Buck Harmon is absolutely correct...a trained (and off-duty) officer should not have pursued the alleged wrong-doer to the point where he lost control of himself and killed someone over rock-throwing. Seems quite extreme and excessive under the circumstances. Policer officers are not above the law... He should have called one of those policer officer friends who spoke up as character witnesses for him with that judge yesterday.

Very well stated BrownGirl71. I am very sad over the loss of a young life. I also know the dangers of anger being allowed to boil over to the point where someone makes a rash decision and the outcome far exceeds what we originally intended. Just breaks my heart, because I'm a Mom. There are no winners in this situation. I do pray that God brings the resolution and justice that is truly deserving (whatever that may be), and that the child's parents find peace. This is a wicked world, very much unlike what I experienced as a child, and the experience I am giving my own children. This is tragic on all sides.

i agree with those who say the off duty shouldve use his training and held on to the kid til they got him in cuffs, , but again I ask was there a scuffle ? back to my personal story,,,,,,, I had to wrestle the next door neigbors kid ( he was about 17 0r 18) he was much taller than me and out weighed me ,,,,,,,, I got the best of him, at one point I piukced him up and slammed him on to the hood of a car,,,,,,,, one of his thug friends jumped in and got me good on the side of the face, the punk took a branch and tried to hit my mother with it,thats how it got started,,, btw his mother was a nice lady, ,,,,,,,,,, he himself was slime ,,,,,,,,, so dont tell me about these so called "children" ,Ive experienced their nasty attiudes first hand,,,,,,, had I hurt him seriously that night I think he had it coming,,,,,,,,, my mother is dead now, but one thing is for sure,,,,,,,,,, I defended her,,,,,,,,,, stop making excuse for these 6 foot tall children with rotten attitudes

Let TRAYVON R.I.P. as that's got nothing to do with this issue here, this kid here was 17 not 12 and this being not correct is how wrong information gets started and the writer is just flapping their lips. When I see a hostile person starting right off I know I'm in to hearing a pile of BS which is second hand of course. I know from being in fights as a kid and I got someone in a headlock and they resisted I just squeezed harder until they gave up, I think the cop felt this kid trying to get some air to breath and by struggling the cop thought he was resisting and squeezed hard until it was to late and the boy died. Have you ever killed someone like in a war it don't feel good folks even the enemy has a right to live his life but combat is combat and someone is the loser as in this case even a 17 year old boy.
