Ruppersberger 'Condemns' Killing of Americans in Libya
Read the Baltimore County congressman's statement in full.
The last time Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger spoke of Libya, he was heartened by the "new era" of peace the country would soon see after the death of dictator Moammar Gaddafi.
But now an attack on a U.S. Consulate that left an ambassador and three other American diplomats dead could jeopardize that peaceful future.
"I strongly condemn the vicious attack on the American Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that claimed the lives of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans," Ruppersberger wrote in a statement. "The brave group was committed to promoting freedom and justice around the world. I am saddened and disturbed by the loss of these true patriots. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives."

The New York Times reported that the Obama administration believes the attack on the consulate was planned, rather than a "spontaneous mob getting out of control," as was originally believed.
"The attack followed a violent protest at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo over a low-budget anti-Muslim film made in the United States, and it initially appeared that the assault on the Benghazi consulate was another spontaneous response," according to The Washington Post.
Sam Bacile, the Israeli filmmaker responsible for the film (which reportedly cost $5 million) has gone into hiding, Fox News says.
The Baltimore Sun published an editorial Wednesday supporting Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's criticism of the Obama administration's statements on the tragedy.
The full statement:
I strongly condemn the vicious attack on the American Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that claimed the lives of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. The brave group was committed to promoting freedom and justice around the world. I am saddened and disturbed by the loss of these true patriots. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives.
Through my work as Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee, I travel the world meeting with our intelligence professionals and diplomatic corps who are working tirelessly in all corners of the globe to help people have a better life. I traveled to Libya and saw the brutal rule of the dictator Moammar Gaddafi and was inspired to see change in Libya.
While our diplomatic corps does not wear the uniform of our armed forces, this tragic incident reminds us of the risks these professionals face as they work to improve the lives of people worldwide. I am always impressed with their dedication to their mission. I stand with the other American leaders who say we will not rest until those responsible for this deadly attack are tracked down and brought to justice.

Well, I'm glad ol' Dutch condemned the killings and didn't praise them. Thanks Dutch, always good to get another useful speech from you!
But seriously, there is really something wrong with a religion whose extremists can justify such actions. Other mainstream religions outgrew this kind of nonsense hundreds of years ago.
I see that Egyptians have joined in these actions with invading the consulate a destroying the American flag. Yet, I don't see any of these countries refusing the hundreds of millions in aid we send them. That should stop now!

Cut off the aid to Libya & Egypt & get back to the realization that our only true ally in the Middle East is Israel.Islam is a religion that only Charles Manson & his ilk could embrace.

If Israel was truly our ally they wouldn't recruit spies to spy on us.

Another wise and insightful comment from Steve. Maybe we should forget Isreal and continue to support Libya and Egypt as well as the other islamic nuts in the middle east. We give so much in money and military support that maybe we could convince them to take on the illegal immigration problem. Start sending illegals to Libya, Egypt, Suadia Arabia. Convince them to provide in-state tuition rates and welfare for them too. Might as well get something for our money.

He Cares SOO Much about America he resigns his position of chair of the intelligence committee and gives it to a newly elected fill in. Does he care about America or his party? Or Is Dutch in trouble ? Why does a congressman give up a position like he did in a state that is Breast Fed on federal military contracts? Did they sacrifice Wendy Rosen to get people Not to look into DUTCH?

Maybe if Obama understood the real ability to build a strong defense ,Then the DNC could have used US battleships for the backdrop instead of Russians warships. Dutch might have been able to get a steel contract with a us company. But Dutch doesn't count ,if he is reelected If,well you thought Wendy Rosen was bad wait until what the DNC has on Dutch.

Dutch is just a party line democrat all the way. The first time I was old enough to vote was when he ran for county executive and I voted for him because I thought he was a "conservative" democrat. Ha, not that there is any such thing now. He votes with the democrats on virtually everything yet portrays himself as bipartisan on foreign affairs. What courage Dutch to condemn this outrage.
