Steeplechase Season Climaxes at Hunt Cup

The Maryland Hunt Cup promises an exciting conclusion to the steeplechase season.
The race is the final jewel of the Maryland steeplechase triple crown.
The highly anticipated Hunt Cup will celebrate its 116th running on Saturday at Worthington Farms, located at 2700 Tufton Ave. in Glyndon, according to the Maryland Steeplechasing website. It has a purse of $75,000.
The owner of the winning horse will also receive the Challenge Bowl, which is presented by the committee of the Maryland Hunt Cup Association.
Gates open at 11 a.m. but the challenging 4 miles over timber course doesn't post until 4 p.m., the website states.
Starting at 2 p.m., police officers will direct eastbound traffic from Tufton Avenue onto Dover Road and westbound traffic from Tufton will be stopped as needed so race-goers can safely cross on foot, according to Baltimore County police.
The following roads will be closed from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Worthington Avenue and Tufton Avenue
- Belmont Avenue and Butler Road
- Mantua Mill Road and Geist Road
- Tufton Avenue and Falls Road
- Dover Road and Tufton Ridge Road
