It's no surprise the Robbies of Robbie's 1st Base have seen a surge in Ray Lewis memorabilia sales since the star linebacker announced his retirement.

The little shop off of Ridgely Road in Timonium has been selling thousands of dollars worth of Ray Lewis's signature. Helmets, photos, footballs—all emblazoned with a future Hall of Famer's signature mean big bucks for the savvy collector.

But there are few things to know before investing in a "RL52."

First and foremost, whatever you currently own or pickup from a local memorabilia shop, you should hang on to it for at least five years. Watch the video to find out why.

Second, although equally important, collectors should keep track of Ray's career post-NFL. The All-Pro linebacker's name may be synonymous with Baltimore at this point, although that does little to add to his overall merchandise value in say New York, Dallas, San Francisco, etc.
