Baltimore County Council Live?

Baltimore County Council work sessions could be coming to a cable channel near you in the near future.

Council Chairwoman Vicki Almond said the council is scheduled to meet with Comcast officials next week to discuss recording and rebroadcasting the meetings.

The meeting was originally scheduled for last week but was delayed because of the remnants of Hurricane Sandy.

The decision to televise the meetings could come as welcome news to some activists who have criticized the council for holding the work sessions in the middle of the day when most people cannot attend.

The council typically debates all legislation and possible amendments during the work sessions leaving only the votes for the following legislative session held on Monday nights.

Almond, a Reisterstown Democrat, and David Marks, a Perry Hall Republican, both have said they would like to see the meetings televised.

The change could require the council to move all its meetings into its legislative chambers to accommodate better camera angles not available in the smaller conference room.

Televising the work sessions on tape delay is still behind the Baltimore County Public Schools system which last week announced plans to live stream its meetings over the internet.

Almond and Marks said they both support the idea of live streaming the meetings but said they were uncertain of the logistics of such broadcasts. Maybe some day.

Brian, Brian, how do accomplish a live broadcast when most of the members of the council are dead, politically speaking.
