BOE Approves Imagine Discovery 2-Year Charter Extension
The Imagine Discovery Public Charter School community can now breath a collective sigh of relief.
In its last meeting before the start of the school year, the Board of Education voted to approve Superintendent S. Dallas Dance's recommendation to extend the struggling school's charter agreement by two years on Tuesday night.
Members Cornelia Bright Gordon, a member-at-large, and H. Edward Parker, of the seventh council district, were the lone votes against the recommendation. Three other members—Ramona Johnson, Rodger Janssen and James Coleman—were not present.
Prior to the vote, member-at-large David Uhlfelder said he considered the recommendation to be a fair option.
Dance previously said that he was not happy with Imagine's performance but made the recommendation for the county's only charter school so that all efforts were exhausted if it came down to revoking the agreement.
A decision to extend the charter for an additional two or four years starting in the 2014-2015 school year will be made during an evaluation in fall 2013.

I read about this in the sunpapers. Let see, the school tried to fire the principle because of bad performance, Ah the BOE said you can not do that. The teachers for the school, I believe, are assigned by the BOE or BCPS. Gee they must be the cream of the crop. Let the school run it self and hire the teachers they want and find a principle that will work with their system. This article does not explain what has happened at this school in the last few years. I would suggest you dig a little deeper and you will find many faults on both sides, more so I guess on the government school side.
