Huff Favors 'Gun Safety' Not Control

One of the Baltimore County Council's two Republicans said he is still a strong advocate for gun ownership rights despite his support for stricter gun laws called for this week by County Executive Kevin Kamenetz.

Todd Huff, a Timonium resident, was the only councilman to attend a Monday news conference held by Kamenetz and county police Chief Jim Johnson.

"It's not gun control, it's gun safety," Huff said of Kamenetz's three-point request to state and federal lawmakers. "The way Kevin presented it was pretty good."

The councilman said his appearance at the event should not be taken as support for gun control or a contradiction for someone who is "a card-carrying member of the NRA."

The county executive and Johnson Monday called for a ban on the sale of assault weapons, ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds, and ending exemptions to national background checks for private sales.

Kamenetz issued the open letter to state and federal lawmakers in the wake of a Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. The incident took the lives of 26 people including 20 children.

"I do strongly believe in the Second Amendment and the right to carry," Huff said. "I don't feel the need to have assault weapons and massive clips for mass destruction."

Are you really that ignorant? Serious question. I have never seen a magazine/clip that didn't hold more than 5 rounds except in old movies. Are you from this planet? Or did you just waken from a 100 year slumber?

For the anti gun folks what size magazine would you suggest we carry? Rifle? Handgun?

I'll bite. For a rifle, only bolt action single shot weapons. For handguns, only revolvers subject to very strict background checks. Very strict. Simply put, I am completely against semi-automatic weapons. They didn't exist when the second amendment was written, so why are they permitted now?

Fifa, the internet didn’t exist when the fist amendment was written should we start limiting speech as well?

Lets be realistic nothing is the same since they wrote the amendments. So should e rewrite all amendments and open up the Pandora's box?

Congratulations to Councilman Huff for having the courage to take a common sense approach.

Revolver, semi auto it really doesn't matter. When I was competing I could fire 36 rounds from a revolver in less than 90 seconds...that's 5 reloads. For the uneducated...a "clip" has no spring It was something that held up to 10 rounds in a strip...hence the name "striper clip" These were used in the M1 garand of WW2 fame. A "magazine" has an internal spring and holds bullets in a vertical box to feed the weapon from below. Modern SA pistols, SA, bolt and pump rifles use this technology. And when the constitution was written, true, they didn't have SA weapons, but they didn't have computers either, yet, freedom of the press is still extended to internet bloggers. Should we limit that right to only those that publish on a paper and not on the internet?

Come on Jimmy, you are full of it. I will use a 90 round magazine AR15 against your 6 shot revolver any day. You will never get a reload done. When you look down, if you got a chance you are dead. Get real.

FIFA
Your right if you would if it was a heads up competition, but it wasn't a crazed gun man went on a shoot spree against unarmed people. If a shooter is proficient with his weapon it doesn't matter what he is shooting. He will accomplish what he is set out to do.....

I have to agree with our councilman on this one.

Let's get back to the topic. The County Executive's answer to criminal violence is to reduce the constitutional rights of the law-abiding. That's criminal and indeed a conflict with the Second Amendment.

Let's see what rewards Kamenetz doles out to those willing to compromise their own principles and citizens' rights and safety just to kowtow to his liberal agenda.

That's not even remotely criminal. A piece of paper written hundreds of years ago by a bunch of old besotted white guys needs a little updating anyway.

Instead of gun control why don't we have some criminal control? Only when guns are outlawed will the outlaws have guns. When a drunk driver kills someone do they blame the car?
