DESCRIPTION:Maryland CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)\, a private
 \, non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring all victims of child ab
 use and neglect their right to safe\, permanent homes\, is hosting a tow
 n hall meeting to explore racial disparities in the child welfare system
 .&nbsp\;\nEvery day in America\, approximately 700 children are removed 
 from 	 	their homes and placed in foster care as a result of abuse and n
 eglect.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;Nearly  half of those children will be children of 
 color.&nbsp\; Once they enter the  foster care system\, children of colo
 r are more likely than white  children to drift from one foster home to 
 another\, end up in group care  and have poor outcomes.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;The
 y are less likely to be reunited with their families or otherwise find p
 ermanent homes.&nbsp\;&nbsp\;\nSpeaker: Oronde Miller\,  		 		Senior Ass
 ociate\, Center for the Study of Social Policy\nOronde Miller is a Senio
 r Associate at the Center for the Study of Social Policy (CSSP) in Washi
 ngton\, DC\, where he advances CSSP&rsquo\;s work  to achieve race equit
 y in the nation&rsquo\;s child welfare system\, within a  broader portfo
 lio of work to improve the well-being of all children and  families in t
 his country. Prior to joining CSSP\, Oronde was the chief of  staff at t
 he Maryland Department of Human Resources. Miller&rsquo\;s  professional
  experience includes direct service\, program development and  managemen
 t\, community engagement as well as child welfare and  educational syste
 m reform efforts.&nbsp\; Before working in child welfare\,  Miller was i
 nvolved in urban public school system reform efforts  addressing race\, 
 cultural socialization\, teacher training and  institutional bureaucracy
 . He is the author of  			 			&ldquo\;Facing the Rising Sun: Perspective
 s on African American  		 		 		 		Family and Child Well-Being.&rdquo\;  
 		 		Miller earned his  bachelor&rsquo\;s degree in elementary education
  and a master of science in  developmental psychology from Howard Univer
