'Mighty Milers' Win and 'Girl Power' Rocks at 'Call to ACTCion: 5K Run/1.5 Mile Walk to Fight Hunger'

At the third annual "Call to ACTCion: 5K Run/1.5 Mile Walk to Fight Hunger" fundraiser on Saturday, June 7, at Goucher College, 300 walkers and runners turned out on behalf of the Assistance Center of Towson Churches (ACTC). Thirty "Mighty Milers" from Cockeysville's Rec Council cross country team dashed to the finish line, winning first and third place in the Female Division. They were respectively Emily Wayson and Ashlin Teague. Thirty "Girl Power" members of West Towson and Riderwood elementary schools rocked, sporting wild looking socks and equally colorful shoes, as they rushed to the end, many of them accompanying Ridge Ruxton participants. Greg Lyons of Parkville was first to cross the finish line, winning gold in the Male Division. Second was John Weaver of West Towson, and third was Zenden Cole of Parkville. Sarah Getsay of Butler, PA won the silver medal for placing second in the Female Division. ACTC volunteer Dain Davis of Idlewylde strode to first among the walkers. Hailed as a fun, successful morning, contenders and generous sponsors raised $15,000 to help stock ACTC's food pantry.
