THE MULLAN CONTRACTING COMPANY CAPTURES FOUR "AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE" HONORS FROM THE ASSOCIATED BUILDERS AND CONTRACTORS (ABC)

Baltimore, MD (April 11, 2014) – The Mullan Contracting Company captured four “Awards of Excellence” honors from the Baltimore Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) in its 2014 awards competition. With four category wins, The Mullan Contracting Company tied for the highest number of first place awards among all general contracting companies in the Baltimore metropolitan region. The annual awards program recognizes general contracting companies for outstanding work in various categories based on the cost of the project.

Mullan achieved top honors for the renovation of the Saint Ignatius Loyola Academy, a tuition-free independent Jesuit middle school located in Baltimore City that relocated to a new building on 300 E. Gittings Street in Federal Hill. In the space of less than one year Mullan completely refurbished the 27,000 square foot building which encompassed the upgrade of all classrooms, science laboratories, the gymnasium and the library-media center as well as an installation of a new elevator. The new school approximately doubled the amount of space it previously occupied.

The company also won an Award of Excellence for the new construction of The Naylor Building for Upper School science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) on the campus of McDonogh School, a co-educational school of approximately 1,300 students in the Owings Mills section of Baltimore County. The three-story 60,000 square foot structure is nestled near the new grand entrance of the private institution and features Georgian architecture with transitional elements.

In addition, Mullan was recognized for two separate “Award of Excellence” honors for projects completed at Calvert School in Baltimore City. This includes the construction of a 252-seat assembly hall contained within the Middle School building, and the construction of a 10,000 addition to its Lower School. This latter project featured a mix of classrooms, office space and meeting and conference rooms among two floors.

“The competition is extremely fierce each year across the different categories, as outstanding and creative construction projects are completed throughout the greater Baltimore metropolitan region,” explained Joseph Rode, President of The Mullan Contracting Company. “We consider it an extremely high honor to be recognized as top in its class for four separate construction project, and credit our entire team from pre-construction services to job superintendent for these successes.”
