GREAT ESCAPE: Free Friday Night Wine Tasting

Patch finds a fun parents' night out each week so you can keep your babysitters employed!

Oui oui! There will be French wine tasting at The Wine Merchant on Friday evening.

Non non! You don’t have to pay a dime.

Like every Friday, , at 10741 Falls Rd., in Lutherville’s Green Spring Station, will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. for folks to pop in and taste a sampling of reds and whites.

The Wine Merchant is hosting renowned French wine importer Alain Blanchon, who will be uncorking and pouring some of his selections, this Friday. Blanchon is traveling from New York just to give Lutherville a taste of his favorites.

“It’s free to the public,” said The Wine Merchant manager Neil Cohen. “We usually have some kind of a theme, where one week we’ll do some French wines, then Italian, then American, whatever it may be.”

Cohen added that in addition to Blanchon, sometimes The Wine Merchant will host winemakers, who will pour and talk about their wines.

“It’s very educational,” said Cohen. “There’s always someone there to pour who knows what’s going on.”

Friday night wine tastings are very social, with up to 80 people who come inside during the three-hour tasting window.

“It’s a lot of fun,” said Cohen. “People look forward to coming. We see a lot of repeat people week in and week out, and of course new ones sometimes. It can get crowded, but we keep it flowing really well.”

The will be open as well, so grab some dinner and call it an evening. If you like what you sample at this week’s French wine tasting, buy a bottle of your favorite new flavor to uncork when you get home.

If the sitter already has the kids in bed, give your corkscrew a twirl, pour a glass, and enjoy your vin français.
