Officials Warn of Slick Roads, Freezing Rain Advisory in Northern Baltimore County

Plan ahead and drive safely as roads will be slick today.

Mother Nature has kept us on our toes in 2014. Baltimore County has seen snow fall and lower than average temperatures since the year started which has created hazardous traveling conditions.

Baltimore County is under a Freezing Rain Advisory, according to the National Weather Service, until 7 p.m. Sunday.

Today officials are warning that roads and sidewalks will be slick as sleet and rain falls and freezes upon contact with the ground. Untreated surfaces will be especially dangerous.

The Carroll County Office of Public Safety has posted on its Facebook page, "several traffic accidents and slip & falls have been reported this morning. Remember that with freezing rain, surfaces that appear wet can actually be solid ice. Even after temperatures warm to just above freezing, it will take some time for all the ice to melt."

NWS reports that freezing rain will continue through midday until it changes to rain early this evening.

Freezing Rain Advisory means that periods of freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads, NWS advises.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook also notes that there may be areas of dense fog late this afternoon into tonight.

And hunker down, because the cold weather will settle in for the next few days, according to NWS.

Bitterly cold conditions will move in behind an arctic front Monday through Tuesday night, with record cold temperatures expected across the region. This air mass may turn out to be the coldest in 20 years, according to NWS. Dangerously low wind chills are expected.
