NKF-MD Promotes Christie Vera

The Lutherville-based National Kidney Foundation of Maryland (NKF-MD) has promoted Christie Vera to vice president of development and marketing.

“Christie Vera has done an outstanding job growing our signature Kidney Walk and Santé: A Culinary Odyssey events, recruiting high level, high profile leadership volunteers for our committees and quickly developing local marketing materials when she was first hired,” said Cassie Shafer, NKF-MD’s president and CEO. “Her new position gives us an opportunity to expand our development and marketing efforts.”

Vera, who joined in 2011 as director of development and marketing, now oversees the Foundation’s five-person development department and manages the marketing committee. She also will help develop and launch major gifts and planned giving campaigns.

“I am truly honored and humbled to be promoted to NKF-MD vice president, and am grateful that I can continue my career in development and marketing with a top-flight, well-run organization that touches so many lives in a positive way each day,” Vera said.

“NKF-MD performs an essential role for the many families who are affected by kidney and urinary tract diseases,” she added. “I have enjoyed all the work I have done with the Foundation, especially interacting with our outstanding and dedicated volunteers who tirelessly give their time to improve the Kidney community here in Maryland.”

A Pace University graduate, Vera currently sits on Towson University’s Nonprofit Leadership Alliance Advisory Board.

Prior to joining NKF-MD, she served the March of Dimes for six years, sat on the Big Brother Big Sister of Central Maryland board and volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina.

The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, serving central and western Maryland, the Delmarva Peninsula and portions of West Virginia, is the area’s only voluntary health agency dedicated to the prevention, treatment and cure of kidney and urinary tract diseases.
