A New Place for Lunch in Hunt Valley

Nalley Fresh on Schilling Road offers healthy, fast and casual fare. It's worth a visit.

I'd sooner join the French Foreign Legion than open a restaurant.

To say it's a very precarious business would be an under statement.  Which is why when a restaurant  starts off doing well I'm impressed.  Such is the case with Nalley fresh, that opened February 13 at 225 Schilling Road in Hunt Valley.

It is locally owned by Greg Nalley and Chef Carlos.  This is the second location of Nalley fresh.  The original is downtown at the corner of Baltimore and Calvert.  The concept here isn't that complicated, serve fresh food at reasonable prices.  And then they will come.  The early business generated, mainly from folks in the nearby office buildings, has been quite encouraging.

You walk in and you do have some decisions to make.  First of all, decide if you want bowls, wraps or salads.  Then what protein do you want in it.  I went for the Japanese tofu.  But I had other choices that day, like tilapia and salmon.  Then there's the nearly 50 choices of ingredients that are offered with your entree.  Soup is also available.  When all that is done, you find a seat or carryout.  The damages are usually around $9-$10.  There are also daily chefs specials.  Everything being served is written on a board and there are changes everyday.

The Hunt Valley location serves lunch only on weekdays.  However they would be happy to cater a corporate affair or you can rent the premises for a private party.  Downtown you can order breakfast or lunch.  On line ordering is there for you and delivery if your order is more than $50.  Greg told me the specials are posted online at about 9 a.m.

The restaurant seats about 70 and when it's finally warm enough there will be outside seating.  The restaurant already seems to be a favorite of those working close-by.  How convenient is it to simply walk out the front door, walk a few steps and there you are, lunch.

Greg summed up Nalley Fresh in three adjectives, it's healthy, fast and casual.   On my next visit I'll be trying the curried tofu.
