GRAB AND GO KIDS PLANNER: Artscape, 'Cinderella,' Summer Concerts and More

Here's a roundup of family-friendly activities for you to try this weekend.

When/Where: Friday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, 1212 Cathedral Street Baltimore, 21201.

Why Go: Love me do? You will after you hear this symphony arrangement of the Fab 4’s songs. From their early hits to the solo careers, the Classical Mystery Tour explores Beatles music in a new way and is an experience for all ages.

ADVENTURE PARK USA – 6TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

When/Where: Saturday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at 11113 West Baldwin Road, New Market, MD 21774.

Why Go: Adventure Park USA celebrates its sixth “birthday” this weekend. Meet the Backyardigans, ride roller coasters, play miniature golf or maybe challenge your family to a game of laser tag. There is also a magnificent fireworks show in the evening that is free to all. It’s all great, clean fun.

Price:  Free admission; ride costs vary.

 

CINDERELLA

 When/Where: July 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30 at 8 p.m., July 17 and 24 at 3 p.m. at New Town High School, 4931 New Town Blvd., Owings Mills, MD 21117.

Why Go: To see if the glass slipper fits your foot. Also, Cinderella needs help with her chores if she is to get to the ball on time. Enjoy this Rodgers & Hammerstein musical with live orchestra presented by Liberty Showcase Theatre. Travel to a land where dreams really do come true and impossible things happen every day.

Price: $16 for adults, $13 kids 12 & under/students with ID and seniors.

 

FREDERICK ROAD FRIDAYS SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

When/Where: Every Friday through Sept 2, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Egges Lane, Catonsville, MD.

Why Go: Your folding lawn chair hasn’t seen enough action yet this summer. This Friday it’s Jay Cleaver and the Love Leaders. Jay Cleaver plays all of your favorite funk, soul, rock and blues classics. Watch out for Jay and his Sax—you never know where he will pop up!

Price: Free.

 

ARTSCAPE 2011

When/Where: July 15 to 17 (Friday and Saturday), noon to 10 p.m., and Sunday, noon to 8 p.m.

Why Go: This year marks the 30th anniversary for Artscape. Lively and diverse, this festival celebrates the arts featuring continuous musical performances by local, regional and national talent on multiple outdoor stages.

There are also indoor and outdoor visual arts exhibitions, film, theater, the Artists' Market with crafts and works of art for sale. And let's not forget to mention the opera, dance, fashion, literary arts activities, street theater and special activities geared toward children. There is literally something for everyone.

Price: Free.
