GRAB AND GO KIDS PLANNER: HoCo Fair, Haunted Tours and Turtles Abound
Here's a weekly roundup of family-friendly activities for you to try this weekend.
When/Where: Saturday, Aug. 6 from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. at the Howard County Fairgrounds, 2210 Fairgrounds Road West Friendship, MD 21794.
Why Go: If you are a kid you might go to enjoy the rides, horse shows, farm animals, face painters, magicians and tractor pulls. If you are an adult, take a little time and entertain the kid inside you—face painting and getting dizzy from fast rides never gets old.

Price: Kids under 10 free, 10 and older $5, seniors 62 and over $2.

NATIONAL AQUARIUM 30TH ANNIVERSARY FESTIVAL
When/Where: Friday, Aug. 5 from noon to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The National Aquarium Baltimore, 501 East Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD 21202.
Why Go: It’s Shark Week on TV and the dolphins are making a krill cake to celebrate. There should be plenty for everyone. It’s a grand celebration with music, special events and art activities for the kids and big kids alike.
Price: If you are turning 30 this year, it’s $5 with ID. Some anniversary activities are free, although regular ticket prices apply for entry. See website for details.
When/Where: Saturday and Sunday, August 6 and 7, from noon to 9 p.m. at Poly/Western High School Complex Fields, 1400 W. Coldspring Lane at Falls Road, Baltimore, MD.
Why Go: It’s a melting pot celebration of Baltimore’s cultural diversity with music, dancing, food and opportunities to connect with services in the community.
Price: Free.
When/Where: Saturday, Aug. 6 from noon to 3 p.m. at Jug Bay Wetland Sanctuary, 1361 Wrighton Road, Lothian, MD 20711.
Why Go: Because I LIKE TURTLES. Really though, come out of your shell and help seek out nine different species of turtles in this sanctuary. Along the way, participants will learn more about the turtle research conducted by this facility. In the meantime, enjoy the remix.
Price: Free.
YE HAUNTED HISTORY OF OLDE ELLICOTT CITY
When/Where: April thru November, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:30 p.m.
Why Go: I am afraid I can’t tell you. That is to say it’s a ghostly affair. This is a haunted place and the spirits are quite restless. Bring your imagination and converse with the shopkeepers and blacksmiths of yesteryear. Guided tours will lead you through a fun and thrilling investigation of the paranormal.
Price: $10 adults, $8 children (12 & under), seniors (65+) and active military personnel & their families. (Not recommended for children under 6 years old).
