Gansler Proposes Delivering Eyeglasses to Needy Students

Attorney General Doug Gansler released the first in a series of web videos promoting his campaign's policy proposals.

Attorney General Doug Gansler released the first in a new series of web videos where he will promote policy proposals. This time Gansler, who is running for the Democratic Party’s gubernatorial nomination, lays out his plan to help close the minority achievement gap in state schools by creating a program to provide needy student with glasses.

"What we do today is we test children to see if they need glasses. The problem is it ends right there," Gansler says in the video. "We’re going to leverage Medicaid, we’re going to work with the private sector, we’re going to work with foundations, and we’re going to have mobile vans come to schools and deliver eyeglasses to children who need them, right then and there."

Gansler is currently running in a competitive primary against Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and Del. Heather Mizeur.
