Sen. Jim Brochin, who represents a large portion of central Baltimore County, is running for re-election, and both former Gov. Robert Ehrlich and Gov. Martin O’Malley want to see him lose his seat.

O’Malley sent a fundraising letter on behalf of Brochin’s challenger in the Democratic Primary, former Del. Connie DeJuliis, and Ehrlich has solicited funds for former chairman of the Baltimore County GOP Chris Cavey who is also running in District 42, according to the Washington Post.

Brochin, a three-term Democrat, has been at odds with O’Malley and voted against tax-increases the administration has supported.

Brochin has also caused friction with O’Malley’s political allies in Baltimore City when he criticized the city for closing mountain bike paths in Loch Raven Boulevard. He also angered the same allies when he said in June 2012 that his constituents didn’t feel safe going to Baltimore, and that the city required a Maryland State Police presence.

Of course O'Malley and Ehrlich opposed because at any given time Brochin makes decisions on what he and his constituents believe is right. He's one of the only elected officials I respect.
