JDRF 2013 Night of Hope Gala

JDRF, the leading global organization funding research for type 1 diabetes (T1D),  will host its  annual Night of Hope Gala, A Night in Oz, on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Baltimore’s Hyatt Regency Hotel.  To reserve a seat or to find out more information, visit www.jdrf.org/jdrfgalamd or
call 410-636-8080.

The black-tie event provides the JDRF Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter with the opportunity to raise money to fund T1D research. The night will include cocktails, dinner, silent and live auctions, and JDRF’s exclusive special appeal, Fund A Cure. The emcee for the evening will be WJZ-13’s Eyewitness News anchor, Denise Koch. The gala will feature surprise live entertainment as well as DJ Chris Kopec.

The gala honoree, Woody Collins, is Executive Vice President for M&T Bank and serves on a number of civic and charitable organizations, including The Kennedy Krieger Institute Inc., Baltimore Development Corporation, University of Maryland Medical System, Baltimore Convention and Tourism Board, and the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, an $80 million family philanthropic organization.

The Stars of Hope for the evening are Dr. Matthew and Mrs. Duffy Weir. Dr. Weir is the attending physician and Director of the Division of Nephrology in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore. Mrs. Weir, an independent retail marketing and sponsorship consultant, is on the Advisory Board of Directors for the Maryland office of the Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Chapter and has served on boards for several other local non-profit organizations. Both Dr. and Mrs. Weir have been long-time supporters of JDRF.

This year’s theme is modeled after the “Wizard of Oz.” It is designed to express three main concepts from the film; courage, knowledge and heart. Courage represents the 3 million people in the United States living with T1D. Knowledge represents the researchers working hard to find a cure for T1D. Heart represents the volunteers, donors, and sponsors who support JDRF.
