Homes, Businesses Evacuated after York Road Gas Leak

Part of York Road was closed.

Due to a gas leak, part of York Road is closed and buildings have been evacuated, Baltimore County Emergency Management reported.

The gas leak at York Road and Ashland Avenue will take three hours to fix, according to a message from emergency officials after 6 p.m. on Monday.

York Road was closed at Ashland at 10:06 a.m. Monday for emergency roadwork, according to the Department of Transportation. Utility crews had been working on a gas leak Monday afternoon when the leak worsened, WBAL reported.

Businesses and homes within one-quarter mile of the leak were evacuated, Baltimore County Emergency Management said, advising people to avoid the area.

York Road was closed between Ashland Avenue and White Avenue, according to WJZ, which reported the cause of the 4-inch gas main leak was under investigation.

BGE was at the scene, county officials said.
