Summertime Scrapping

Some ideas to spark your summertime scrapbooking.

Summer is almost here!

It's truly my favorite time of year.  School is winding down for the kids and I'm looking forward to some lazy, relaxing days ahead. With less homework to fight about—I mean finish up—and lighter, easier meals to prepare, I usually find myself with some free time in the eveings. With any luck, I'll get to spend some of this free time in my scrap room.

I started thinking about what I might want to document and capture about my favorite season.  Maybe this will spark some ideas for you!

My top five scrapbook topics this summer are:

  1. Favorite Summer foods - There are some gotta-have summer foods.  For me, it's zuchini, sweet vidalia onions, bruschetta and glasses of sweet wine on the deck.   And some steamed crabs.  Can't forget the steamed crabs!   I will grab my camera and capture the yumminess of the summer season.
  2. Favorite Activities - My family loves stolen evenings at the pool, making smores over the fire pit and playing catch with the dogs in the backyard. I hope to capture these impromtu events that make up the lazy days of summer.
  3. Summer Reading - With less regular shows to watch on TV, we tend to have more time to pick up a book.  I want to document the things that the kids are reading—even if it's a magazine!  For me, I love a good trashy novel to read by the pool.
  4. Vacation Fun - This year we are headed to Deep Creek Lake. I'm looking forward to escaping the summer heat and having some mountain fun.  There are definitely a few scrapbook pages I want to create to capture our adventure.   Last year, we were able to sneak in a quick trip to Cape Cod and reconnect with family.  I created this layout (see photos) and tried to capture the silliness when all the cousins were together in one place!  I'm hopeful there are some more moments like this for us during the summer.
  5. Projects Around the House -  Every summer there is a list of things we want to get done with the longer daylight hours and less evening stress. (See number 3 above!)  Last summer it was painting the kitchen.  This year it will be some additional touches in the kitchen plus I'm hopeful that we can tackle my daughter's room.  She's looking forward to getting a teenage room.  I'm sure there is good a scrapbook page in there somewhere!
