1 Dead, 1 In Jail Following Fatal Car Crash

Police release time line of events involving string of northern Baltimore County burglaries leading to Tuesday's accident on Dulaney Valley Road.

A reported burglary on Vance Road in northern Baltimore County sparked a series of events, which lead to on Dulaney Valley Road in Timonium Tuesday.

Aaron Nathaniel McCoy Jr., 20, who was suspected of several burglaries and was driving a car police say was stolen, appears to have caused the accident in which he was killed, according to police accounts. McCoy's suspected accomplice, Jenard David Toliver, 21, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree burglary and one count of grand theft auto, after "bailing out" of the stolen Honda Accord before the crash, according to a Baltimore County police news release. Both McCoy and Toliver lived in Baltimore city.

Toliver is being held at the on $500,000 bail.

"Detectives have determined that McCoy committed seven, and Toliver two, residential burglaries in northern Baltimore County since Friday. The investigation shows that they committed two burglaries in the minutes before the crash," the release states.

Police attempted to pull McCoy over after spotting the Honda, which was reported at the site of a burglary from earlier that day. The 2006 Honda Accord was stolen in Howard County on Jan. 18.

McCoy sped off, followed by a police helicopter, while a fleet of police cruisers observed the Honda, but did not pursue.

After evading the police attempt to stop the Honda, McCoy tried to pass a navy blue Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo near the intersection of and Ivy Church roads. McCoy accelerated, clipping the Jeep on the driver's side of the SUV causing both vehicles to swerve into on-coming traffic, police said.

A white GMC Sierra 2500 HD service truck collided into the Jeep, sending the Honda head-on into a utility pole. McCoy was declared dead at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, while three other victims in the Jeep and GMC truck suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Timeline of events (from news release):

-"On Monday, McCoy burglarized a home in the 15000 block of Tanyard Road, Sparks, stealing a security monitor recovered at the crash scene in the stolen Accord," according to the release.

-On Tuesday, at about 2:40 p.m. a homeowner in the 3200 block of Vance Road in Monkton reported seeing two men walking out of his home. The homeowner recorded a partial plate number and contacted police. Two iPods were stolen from home, but were later recovered at the crash scene.

-Police then responded to another burglary in the 14000 block of Jarrettsville Pike. "The suspects ransacked the home and stole a 46-inch television, a MacBook laptop, an X-box and other items. No one was home at the time of the burglary. The stolen items were recovered at the crash scene in the Accord," according to the release.

-Police then spotted and attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver (McCoy) fled.

-The passenger Toliver, bailed out of the car near Merryman’s Mill Road at 3:04 p.m., five minutes before the accident. Police apprehended him shortly afterward, the release states.

-"The driver of the Honda accelerated and continued southbound. The driver attempted to swerve around a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo in an effort to pass it. The Honda crossed the center yellow line while striking the left rear corner of the Jeep. The Honda and the Jeep then collided with a northbound white, GMC 2500 utility truck. Finally, the Honda crashed into a telephone pole. The accident occurred at 3:09 p.m."

Detectives are working to determine if McCoy and Toliver were linked to other crimes. Police determined that McCoy was responsible for four burglaries on Jan. 20 between noon and 6 p.m.
