A Message from Baltimore County Police: Don't Drink and Drive

Officers planning for increased patrols and saturation tonight.

The Baltimore County Police Department will be out in mass tonight, monitoring the roads on one of the biggest drinking holidays of the year.

Officers met yesterday to go over standardized field sobriety field testing, legal issues and DUI detection, according to a release.

Remember, when you're done knocking back a few pints of Guinness, to chase them down with a taxi ride home

"On March 17, they will have a two hour wrap-up meeting with motivational speaker Debbie Hardy, who will be talking about the tragic aftermath of crashes involving drunk driving. Hardy’s 13-year-old daughter was killed by a drunk driver in October 2003.

"St. Paddy’s Day is commonly associated with parties and drinking. If you know you will be drinking, then don’t drive. Arrange to take a taxi home or designate a friend to drive during the day and/or night’s partying.

"The Baltimore County Police Department and other agencies will be using saturation patrols in well-documented DUI and DWI sections of the county. If you are caught drinking and driving, you could be arrested on the spot.

"We don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun this St. Paddy’s Day, but we do want everyone to think before they get behind the wheel."

Friendly tip: If you don't have a designated driver for tonight's festivities, be sure to book your taxi early—as in, before noon.
