Baltimore Man Arrested for Attacking Good Samaritan

The following information was supplied by the Baltimore County Police Department. In cases where a criminal charge is noted, the information provided does not indicate a conviction.

Police last week arrested a Brooklyn Park man for attacking a woman who thought he needed help.

A 24-year-old Cockeysville woman came across Shannon Eugene Hutsler, 38, who was passed out in front of the U.S. Post Office in Cockeysville. It was about 1:45 p.m., on Dec. 4.

“She was being a good Samaritan,” said police spokesman Cpl. Cathy Batton.

The woman checked to see if Hutsler needed help. When he came to, he began accusing the woman of stealing from him. The two began to argue.

Hutsler, of the 900 block of Victory Avenue in Baltimore, pulled a knife from his pocket “and lunged” at the woman who was trying to help.

The woman avoided Hustler and used her book bag and knocked him to the ground.

“Officers were already in the area,” Batton said.

Both the post office and the police precinct are situated next to each other in the 100 block of Wight Avenue.

Hutsler was arrested and charged with first degree assault.
