UPDATED (10:07 a.m.)—A suspected burglar caused a multi-vehicle crash on Dulaney Valley Road in Timonium on Tuesday afternoon, killing himself and injuring four others, police said.

At around 2:30 p.m. officers began following—but not pursuing—a car that matched the description of a vehicle linked to a series of burglaries in Monkton, Baltimore County police said.

Late Tuesday, police identified the driver as Aaron Nathaniel McCoy Jr., 20, of the 4000 block of Cedardale Road in Northwest Baltimore.

Police attempted to pull McCoy's gray Honda Accord over but the driver did not stop. The police backed off and the passenger in the car jumped out near Merrymans Mill road. Officers continued to follow the car after a police helicopter took on the role of tracking the passenger.

At around 3:30 p.m. the driver attempted to pass a Jeep Grand Cherokee heading south on Dulaney Valley Road. But the car clipped the Jeep, sending both cars into a white van in the northbound lane. The Honda then slammed into a telephone pole.

McCoy was airlifted to Maryland Shock Trauma and later pronounced dead. Four others involved in the accident were less seriously injured, according to a police news release.

As of 5:35 p.m., Dulaney Valley Road was still closed at the site of the accident. Fire crews had left but Baltimore Gas and Electric workers were on the scene.
