Lutherville Man Indicted on Child Porn Charges

Richard Poehlman faces up to 26 years in prison for charges of possessing and distributing marijuana and child pornography.

The 61-year-old Lutherville man of possessing and distributing child pornography and marijuana was formally indicted this morning in Baltimore County Circuit Court, according to public defender Thomas R. Tompsett Jr.

If convicted, Richard Wayne Poehlman faces a maximum penalty of 26 years in prison and $58,500 in fines.  In addition, he would be added to the Maryland Sex Offender Registry.

A trial date for Poehlman could be scheduled later this week, Tompsett said.

Police arrested Poehlman, of the 1500 block of Norman Avenue, on June 7 after saying they found pornographic images of children in his house during a search, court documents show. He was charged with drug offenses related to the extensive marijuana growing operation that officers say they found in his house on a quiet suburban street of historic homes.

Detectives initially targeted the home of Poehlman's neighbor, after tracking an IP address to a secured wireless network next door to his home.
