Police Catch Burglar In the Act

Police officials arrested a Baltimore City man they say burglarized a home as officers were investigating an hour-earlier burglary on the same street.

A Baltimore City man was arrested Tuesday after police say he attempted to burglarize two homes on the same street in the space of an hour.

Wayne Davis faces burglary charges after police said he attempted to break into a home in the unit block of Lochmoor Court in Lutherville while police were still investigating the burglary of a nearby home, according to police.

A Lochmoor Court homeowner called police Tuesday morning to report a break-in. The homeowner noticed that a window screen had been popped out of its frame and that the window itself had been propped open.

Police responded to the scene a little after 11:35 a.m. with multiple police cruisers, a mobile crime lab and a police helicopter, said Sgt. Doug Markey of the Baltimore County Police Department.

“We checked the house and no one was in there,” Markey said. “The crime lab comes, processing the scene. It’s been about 45 minutes since we’ve gotten the call and we’re in the area. While we were doing that, the person was still in the area and was actually breaking into another house. Then he was arrested.”

Davis, 50, of the 1500 block of Poplar Grove Street in Baltimore City, was charged with two counts of first-degree burglary, theft of property valued between $10,000 and $100,000, and malicious destruction of property above $500 in damages.

Police said Davis stole multiple pieces of jewelry, including a necklace, ring, watch and bracelet.

Markey said the suspect was wearing a necklace that had been reported stolen from one of the two houses he is accused of entering yesterday.

Police do not believe the incidents were connected to the recent string of residential daytime burglaries.
