First Candidate Files For Eleventh District Primary

Democrat Don Engel, a UMBC administrator, announced his candidacy Tuesday

A University of Maryland, Baltimore County administrator has filed to run for a House of Delegates seat representing the 11th district, which includes the Lutherville-Timonium area.

Don Engel, the university's assistant vice president for research, said in a release he will run in the June 2014 Democratic primary. He announced his intent to succeed Del. Jon Cardin, who may leave the house to run for attorney general.

"With the background in science and technology that I would bring to the state legislature, my unique perspective will help move Maryland forward," Engel said in the release. "The residents of this district have given me so much and I hope to repay the kindness by being their advocate in Annapolis."
