O’Malley Appoints Mayer To Baltimore County District Court Bench

Stacy Mayer, a former assistant state's attorney in Howard and Baltimore Counties, was responsible for shepherding O'Malley's gun control and death penalty repeal bills through the General Assembly.

Stacy Mayer, who spent the last year as top lobbyist for Gov. Martin O’Malley, was named a Wednesday to a district court judge.

O’Malley made the announcement as part of a series of judicial appointments that included naming Judge Mary Ellen Barbera as the first woman chief judge of the state Court of Appeals and Judge Shirley Watts as the first black woman to the Court of Appeals.

Mayer was named O’Malley’s chief legislative officer in November 2012. She served as the deputy legislative officer since 2008.

Since being named O’Malley’s top lobbyist, Mayer has been tasked with shepherding some of O’Malley’s most controversial bills through the General Assembly including gun control measures, the repeal of the death penalty, the increase in the gas tax and the passage of a law that allows the construction of electricity-generating wind turbines off the coast of Ocean City.

Prior to joining the governor’s office, Mayer worked for 12 years as an assistant state’s attorney both in Baltimore and Howard Counties.

She began her career In Baltimore County in 1996 she worked in both the district court and juvenile divisions. In 1999, she join the Howard County state’s attorney’s office where she prosecuted cases in the district and circuit courts.

Mayer received her Bachelors degree from the University of Richmond in 1994 and her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1997.

She lives in Baltimore County with her husband and three sons.
