York Road Pipe Installation Delayed Again, Roundabout Planned for Ridgely Rd.

The most recent District 3 newsletter points to two traffic-related updates that will affect Timonium drivers.

First the good news: County contracting crews are taking a break from installing a new pipe under York Road for the winter, meaning traffic should flow more easily through the normally congested, major Lutherville-Timonium thruway.

Now the bad news: While the break is good for drivers in the interim, it means that crews once again missed a projected deadline to complete the project, which began back in April 2010. This could become problematic for the old pipe, which is prone to breaks in freezing temperatures.

Back in July, Patch reported that Burgermeister Bell—the County’s contractor for this project—had lost 60 working days due to excessive rain. They were hoping to complete the 9,500-foot water line replacement by November, avoiding another harsh winter on the old line.

The $5 million-project is now 82 percent finished, with an expected completion date of August 2013. The new pipe installation stretches off Ridgely Road to Padonia Road, according to the Council District 3 newsletter

Speaking of Ridgely Road, the Baltimore County Department of Public Works is planning to install a small roundabout at the intersection of Ridgely and Margate roads.

"The construction, expected to start this winter, is designed to improve safety issues at the intersection," according to the District 3 January newsletter

A roundabout at Ridgely and Margate is a complete waste of money and will only create more safety issues for the children trying to cross to the elementary school. Who thought this would be a good idea??

Regarding the delay on the water lines: First the end date was moved from July to November, a 120 day delay, that was blamed on 60 lost days due to rain. How does that add up? Also, was no rain anticipated in the original ETC? Now they are calling for another NINE MONTHS to finish this project. How is this possible? Are they anticipating more excessive rain? Based on last year's formula, I guess that means we should expect 135 days of rain this year! Who is auditing these people?

L. Masaschi I say no,no,no to a Roundabout at Margate and Ridgely Rds !!! These are the most confusing, dangerous traffic configurations ..... a poor use of financial resources.

Agreed. There was an accident there last summer. If there was a roundabout, it would cause cars to smash into the fence of Dulaney pool. Not a good idea.

Im guessing the same idiot who thought that the roundabout at charles street was a good idea.... The one that they finally 20 years later removed.... Hmmmm

while i am not a huge fan of roundabouts, the new traffic pattern and additional lights at the Bellona Rd/Charles street junction I feel cause more of a nuisance at rush hour then the traffic circle ever did. talk about a poor allocation of funds

People don't seem to know how to properly use roundabouts; waste of money.

The traffic trouble started there when they put in the unneeded 4-way stop. Now there is always a backup on Charmuth; very few cars on Margate. They should have left it the way it was before with stopsigns only on Margate.

I'd like to see a roundabout at timonium rd and pine valley drive. Perhaps you could alleviate the traffic leaving pinewood elementary school, and slow drivers down on timonium rd.

I just received a letter about the planned roundabout for East Ridgley Road and Margate Road. I cannot believe the County is finding this project. It is a colossal waste of money. If your against the round about e-mail Senator Jim Brochin at Jim.Brochin@senate.state.md.us. I drive through that intersection 5 days a week during the morning and evening rush hour. I have never seen an accident. In fact there are very few if any other cars around. According to a post above there was an accident there last summer. One accident should not warrant the expense of a roundabout. I believe the members of Dulaney Valley Swim Club want the roundabout to avoid the walk to the light at Pot Springs Road.

As someone whose daughter was rushed to shock-trauma after a near fatal accident at that intersection, I am in favor of the roundabout. In the ten years I have lived a short walk from that dangerous intersection, there have been two near fatal accidents and several bad accidents. The traffic on Ridgely drive too fast and pay no attention to cross traffic which has limited sight distance to see the speeders. My wife has assisted a car full of old ladies who were pushed completely across the intersection by a speeding truck. The truck driver begged her to not speak to the police. When my daughter and her friend were struck crossing that intersection, they had to use the jaws-of-life to cut them out. The girl who ran into them was talking on her cell phone. I know that traffic controls can't alleviate the idiot driver problem, but I fail to see the downside for the community. There is an elementary school down the street that would also benefit from slower traffic. If my neighbors are too stupid to know how to drive through a roundabout, I suggest public transportation!

Since the folks on Charmuth routinely run that stop sign, it hasn't made much difference. Crossing on foot or driving on Margate, you take your life in you hands!

as a neighbor of the pool in question I am sure it was not them. They are the least bit concerned about saftey. I have had to complain agressively about the parking situations, the speeding the drunks that puke or urinate in my gutters or lawn after parties, and the constant noise polution from their "community" parties. I am asshamed of this community for not doing the right things, I am glad that the county finally stepped in and is being positive about slowing the traffic down on ridgely. Multiple car accidents have occured at this intersection, Who cares about a stupid pool fence, when someones life is at stake. Wake up people and get real. Is the round about really going to slow you down if you "don't see any Traffic"? I would like to be able to safely pull in and out of my driveway without the possibility of getting hit by someone speeding across Margate to avoid getting hit from traffic on Ridgely. And as for the pool, maybe the community could concentrate on being a true community, pull together and create a family friendly environment, not a party place for indulgent adults and a drop off for their kids unsupervised misbehavings.
