Baltimore County Public Schools want residents to help name a new elementary under construction in Mays Chapel.
Names for the school maybe submitted starting Monday through Oct. 18 by sending an email to the firstname.lastname@example.org. Residents are allowed to submit more than one name, according to a news release.
"A goal for this school is for it to be a truly community-oriented school, one in which collaboration with parents, teachers, students and the community is an important and beneficial hallmark,” Steve Coco, principal of the new school, said in the release. “I’m looking forward to hearing from voices across our area through the process of considering and selecting just the right name for our new school."
The top two choices will be sent to Superintendent S. Dallas Dance, who will make a recommendation to the state Board of Education.
The school must be named after one of the following:
- A community, subdivison or street where the school is located
- The geographic location of the school
- A distinguishable landmark that helps in locating the school
- A deceased person who made a significant contribution to Baltimore County, Maryland or the United States
