New Elementary School Boundary Line Votes Must Be Recast

Non-voting committee members cast ballots on proposed districts for the new elementary school in Mays Chapel.

The boundary line committee in charge of developing proposals for which areas will send their children to the new elementary school in Mays Chapel will revote on the preferred scenarios next month.

The vote has to be re-taken because some non-voting members of the committee accidentally cast ballots on the proposed districts during the Nov. 20 meeting, according to a news release from Baltimore County Public Schools.

"We felt a new vote was necessary to ensure the integrity of the selection process," Matthew Cropper, president of Cropper GIS Consulting, Inc., which is assisting with boundary line deliberations, said in a news release. "In addition, we will review the scenarios one last time to make sure they address the criteria and objectives for opening the new school and to accomplish what the committee was formed to do."

The committee will vote on Dec. 10, just a day before the community information session on the proposed boundaries is scheduled.

The session will be live streamed by BCPS-TV on the school system’s website.
