School Board to Vote on New Elementary School Tonight

Mays Chapel residents are expected to oppose the measure at the meeting in Towson.

The Baltimore County Board of Education is expected to vote on a measure tonight that would approve Mays Chapel as the site of a new elementary school, according to the meeting's agenda. (See the PDF attached to this story.)

Towson Families United—the vocal community group composed of concerned parents—has issued a plea to area neighbors to attend the meeting.

"PLEASE ATTEND the Board of Education meeting tonight, Tuesday, March 6th at 7:00 p.m. The agenda calls for a Board vote on the proposed new elementary school in Mays Chapel. Members of the Mays Chapel community are expected to be there opposing the new school in their neighborhood. BCPS owns the property and projections show how necessary this school is for the community. The meeting will be held at the ESS building on the Greenwood Campus, 6901 Charles Street, Towson, 21204."

Councilman Todd Huff, who represents the Greater Timonium area, three weeks ago who—from Huff's perspective—had already settled on Mays Chapel. County Council members Vicki Almond and David Marks said they too were that Mays Chapel was the preferred site during the lunch meeting.

According to school system officials, a new elementary school is critical to alleviating in the coming years.
