The Orioles lead the American League with six Rawlings Gold Glove award finalists.
The awards are given to the best defensive player at each position and are chosen by mangers, coaches and the Society for American Baseball Research, according to Major League Baseball’s website.
Catcher Matt Wieters, has won the previous two Gold Gloves at his position, and shortstop J.J. Hardy and center fielder Adam Jones are each trying to win consecutive Gold Gloves.
Chris Davis, first base, and right fielder Nick Markakis are also finalists.
The Orioles as a team had the best defense in the Major Leagues this past seasons, according to statistics compiled by ESPN. The team’s 54 errors shattered the previous record for fewest errors in a season held by the 2003 Mariners, who committed 65.
