Dulaney Lacrosse Sweeps Perry Hall in Playoffs

Girls and boys teams advance to regional finals.

Dulaney's girls lacrosse team won its fifth straight game, 15-6, and the Lions' boys earned their fifth win in their past six outtings, 13-8, respectively. Both teams won over their visiting Baltimore County rivals from Perry Hall in Monday's Class 4A-3A North Regional semifinals.

The Lions girls led the Gators (8-6) by as much as 8-1 at halftime on the way to improving to 14-2-1, and will play host to Wednesday's title game against defending champion C. Milton Wright (10-3) of Harford County. C. Milton Wright eliminated Catonsville 12-11 Monday afternoon.

The boys overcame an early, 3-1, deficit to vanquish the Gators (6-9) and improve to 12-5 heading into Wednesday's regional final against the winner between county rivals Catonsville (10-5) and Franklin (10-5).

Senior midfielder Kylie Hanley scored four times and had an assist. Senior attacker Kara Burke had two each in goals and assists. Junior midfielder Cara Henning scored twice with an assist and junior midfielder Kenzie Brown and senior midfielder Valen Lagomarsino scored twice each.

The Lady Lions were runners-up in last year's regional final to C. Milton Wright.

In addition, senior attacker Tori Seitz and junior attacker Melissa Webster each contributed a goal and an assist, senior attacker Kelsey Bray had two assists, junior defensive midfielder Samantha Thibeault scored once, and junior attacker Sarah DelBene had an assist.

Junior Juliann Elmer and sophomore Caroline Meegan combined for five saves in the goal for the Lions, who defeated Catonsville, 17-7, on April 8, and again, 16-6, on May 7.

"Today's game was all about discipline, focus, and the little things. We began the game with a 10-minute downpour, and the girls did a nice job of adjusting their throws and keeping their focus on smart passing," said sixth-year girls head coach Kristi Korrow. "Our defense stayed focused on body positioning, and our attack looked to feed the middle, and both were successful on those goals."

The Lions girls were last beaten, 16-12, on April 23 by Century (12-2) of Carroll County.

"This team is a unified group that is very focused on its goals. They are led by 11 seniors who are all willing to give whatever it takes to achieve their goals," said Korrow. "I am proud of what they have done so far and I am just excited to see what they are capable of in this post-season."

First-year head coach, Kyle Fiat, feels the same way about his boys squad heading into Wednesday's competition, led by senior Devin Colegrove, who scored once with four assists.

Freshman Keegan Colegrove and sophomore Tate Berman each scored three times with one assist. Junior Nick Benhoff scored once and assisted on a third goal for the Lions, who won for the second straight time after having lost, 9-2, to defending Class 3A-2A state champion, Hereford, in the county title game on May 7.

Junior goalie Alex Stansbury made 14 saves, and senior midfielder Jack Dana won 11-of-23 faceoffs against the Gators, whom the Lions had beaten, 14-8, on March 29.

"When we were down, 3-1, early on in the first quarter, that was because we were missing assignments. But our defense did a good job as the game went on," said Fiat.

"Our slides were better and our second slides were there," said Fiat. "They have a couple of great players, so it's a good win for us. We have a great bunch of kids who are working their butts off."

The Lions defeated Franklin, 11-2, and, Catonsville, 10-9, respectively, on March 26 and April 8.
