VIDEO: Timonium Short Track Racing Returns to Fairgrounds

The race series starts Friday and continues into August.

Outdoor short track motorcycle racing returns to the Maryland State Fairgrounds this summer to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Light The Night Walk.

What is short track racing? Basically everything your mother was afraid of you doing with that shiny new motor bike. And yes, kids as young as 6 are in on the action.

The 2012 Kevin McNicholas / Gary Nixon Memorial racing series are staged at the on:

  • Friday, July 27
  • Friday, August 3
  • Friday August 10 

The gates for Friday's race open at 3 p.m. Show up for practice rounds at 4:30 p.m. or the actual competition at 6:30 p.m. General admission is $12, spectators under 8 are free.

Editor's Note: Friday marks the opening of the 2012 racing series, after the initial July 20 was postponed due to rain. As of Thursday afternoon, there is a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms for Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
