Adopt Us: 19 Cats Are Looking for a Home

Pet Rescue of Maryland keeps adoptable kitties at the Timonium store.

Nineteen cats call Timonium’s their home.

They’re there all day, every day, in spacious clean cages, complete with carpeting, hammocks, toys, and more importantly, other feline friends.

The cats’ needs are tended to by volunteers at Pet Rescue of Maryland, who come into the store at least twice a day to feed them, change their litter and clean their cages. They also give the cats a lot of free run-around time in their own, large room.

Maurice and Larry are cats who share a cage. They are young brothers, born in a rescue in March after their mother was rescued. They are very brave read the sign on their cage.

“We will protect you from pink furry mice and feathers on sticks,” the sign promises.

Yankee, Doodle, and Dandy also share a cage. They are siblings who are even younger, born in July.

The sign on their cage advises, “We’re little firecrackers. We’re more fun to watch than TV. All we need is some toys to play with and a family to love. We’d be happier if we could be adopted with a sibling or another cat.”

Most of the signs on the eight separate cages plead that same last sentence: “Please adopt me with a sibling or another young cat.”

Garnet, Jasper and Opal are “precious gems who were found in the woods with our feral mom.” So are Diamond, Ruby and Topaz. The litter was six strong, and all of the kittens are still adjusting to domestic life.

The gem kittens are grouped in two large cages, and their signs are honest.

“We are still getting used to people, but we’re pretty sure we like them,” the signs read.

And of course, the gems would like to be adopted with a sibling.

Vanessa and Heathcliff share a place, as do Don Carlos, Joan and Mary. So do Anthony, James and Joseph.

That makes 19 young cats, and a pile of adoption applications on the table next to them.

Pet Rescue of Maryland hosts at PETCO every Saturday at 2 p.m., with many additional cats and dogs, but these 19 cats are kept at the store full time until they can find homes. Stop in any time to get to know them and fill out an application.

The cat and kitten adoption fee is $125. It includes over $450 of veterinary services. The breakdown is:

  • Distemper combo vaccine: $18 per booster
  • Microchipping: $40
  • Physical exam: $40
  • Flea treatment: $40
  • Rabies vaccine: $18
  • Ear mite exam and treatment: $36
  • Feline leukemia and FIV bloodtest: $48
