The utility restored power to most of its affected customers in a little over an hour.
BGE has restored power to most of its customers affected by the bizarre midday blackout in Cockeysville, although the cause of the outage is under investigation. Cockeysville businesses between Galloway Avenue and just beyond Cranbrook Road reported the outages a little before 1:30 p.m. BGE spokeswoman Rachael Lighty said that crews arrived on the scene in Cockeysville at about 2:45 p.m. and were attempting to isolate the problem. Power was restored to the majority of affected businesses by 3 p.m. The remaining businesses in the dark could experience outages several hours if repairs are needed. Laura Petza, a Lutherville mom of two elementary schoolers, wrote on her Facebook page that she “has been reminded, once again, of why she would have made a really crappy pioneer.” When the power came back on, she followed up with a comment: “The lights, they are beautiful!” So was the Internet access, so we could read each others’ accounts of hardship. How did you and your kids do when Hurricane Irene visited and left behind…

Three Lutherville-Timonium intersections are without fully-functional traffic signals after Hurricane Irene.
Baltimore Gas and Electric wants its customers to know that all non-working traffic signals—including those affected by power outages—should be treated as stop signs until they are repaired. "Traffic lights are also a priority for us and are being worked as part of our overall strategy to address public safety and critical infrastructure issues first," Linda Foy, BGE spokeswoman, said. "We are still in the process of addressing these issues which include traffic lights." There are reportedly three intersections without working signal in Lutherville-Timonium: If you see any other intersections without power, please let us know in the comments section.
