Forty-six officers were awarded new ranks Friday morning at a ceremony in Timonium.
Forty-six Baltimore County police officers were promoted to higher ranks Friday morning in the largest promotion class in the department’s 137-year history, Police Chief Jim Johnson said. “They have performed extraordinarily well in this agency for decades. This is a very experienced group of people who are ready, willing and able to take on new responsibilities,” Johnson told Patch following the ceremony at the Maryland State Fairgrounds. “They’re shining examples of the very best in America’s law enforcement.” Johnson attributed the substantial number of promotions partly to retirement incentives offered by the county. “Officers for the last five years have been waiting for retirement programs that have come of age and in addition the …

Monaglan Court, 900 block, on Aug. 16 at 3:30 a.m. A golf bag containing golf clubs and a Garmin GPS were stolen out of an unlocked car. Coache Ford Court, 1000 block, on Aug. 16 between 1:51 a.m. and 1:59 a.m. Three patio chairs valued at $600 were stolen from a man's yard. The two suspects were driving a light colored truck. Budleigh Circle, 600 block, between Aug. 1 and Aug. 20, between midnight at 4:30 p.m. A rear window was broken, although it appears no one went inside. Jody Way, 300 block, between 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 4 and 1:30 p.m. Aug. 5. Door glass was broken by an intruder in an attempt to enter a Timonium home. Nothing appeared to be missing from the garage. There is no further information at this time. Aylesbury Road, unit block, on Aug. 4 at 6:45 p.m. A dog scared off an unknown person who opened the front door. Oak Farm Court, 600 block, on Aug. 5 at 12:45 a.m. Residents confronted an intruder who entered their home through an unlocked rear door. The suspect fled on foot. York Road, 11300 block, at 6:17 p.m. on July 28. Two men robbed a Wendy's restaurant with silver handguns. One of the suspects forced customers to the ground and held them at gunpoint while the other suspect went behind the counter attempting to gain access to money and the safe. No further information is known at this time. Beaver Dam Road, 10100 block, between 4 p.m. on July 23 and 6:15 a.m. on July 25. Burglars stole $150 out of a register belonging to Hollins Organic Products. The suspect(s) entered by breaking a window. English Run Circle, unit block, on July 24 between 1 a.m. and 10:40 a.m. A man allegedly stole lawn furniture from the rear deck of his wife's house. Crotona Court, unit block, July 10, between 12:30 and 5:15 p.m. An Apple iPod Touch, laptop, jewelry and a bottle of vodka were stolen. The intruder removed a screen and entered through a ground-level window. Wendslow Road, unit block, July 8, between 8 and 11:30 a.m. Burglar(s) ransacked a Timonium home. It is unknown if anything was stolen. Unknown suspect(s) entered through an unlocked rear window.

When Norman Avenue homeowners saw police cars lining their street Tuesday morning, many assumed one of their neighbors had been robbed—not that one of their fellow residents was being arrested for child pornography and marijuana. Police arrested Richard Wayne Poehlman of the 1500 block of Norman Avenue in the historic Lutherville neighborhood Tuesday morning and charged him with sharing child pornography over the Internet, according to a police report. Police obtained a warrant to search Poehlman’s house and found further evidence of child pornography on his computer and other storage devices.
