Hazardous Weather Forecasted for Baltimore Metro

A wintry mix is predicted for Thursday night.

Winter storm Nemo may be pounding the New York City area with 30 inches of snow, but Baltimore metro residents are in for much milder winter weather. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook  for central Maryland, the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, northern Virginia and D.C. The outlook warns of a possible light wintry mix and freezing rain. Rain that may be mixed with snow and sleet is expected to fall Thursday night, and will turn to all rain after 4 a.m. Friday, according to the weather agency. Temperatures are predicted to range from a low around 34 to a high near 39. Baltimore Area Under Winter Weather Advisory

The State Highway Administration warns travelers to plan for a long afternoon commute.

Although it's only early November, locals may soon feel the first bite of winter. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory predicting one to two inches of snow across most of the Baltimore metro region, although northern Baltimore and northern Harford counties may see two to four inches. The advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. The steadiest precipitation—snow mixed with rain at times—is expected to occur through the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will be in the lower to mid 30s, according to the National Weather Service.
