The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association is launching a new initiative to teach parents, coaches and students the ins and outs of college athletics.
The state's governing body of high school athletics is striving to make the transition to college easier on student-athletes. The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association has put together a program to help families and schools better understand the process of college recruiting and eligibility. The service is provided through The Recruiting Education Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization. "We are happy to provide this informational program to our student-athletes and their families at no cost," MPSSAA Executive Director Ned Sparks said in a news release. "We highly encourage anyone who has aspirations of playing sports in college to watch this webinar. It is an outstanding first step in properly educating parents and …

Lions overcome poor third quarter to hang on for the win.
When a three-point attempt to tie the game clanged off the front of the rim as the buzzer sounded to end the game, the Dulaney Lions had—for the second time this season—narrowly defeated the Hereford Bulls. Despite poor shooting and another low-scoring second half, the Lions left Hereford with a 46-43 victory, their first in four games. The last-second shot felt eerily similar to the teams’ contest earlier in the season, which ended in a 59-57 Dulaney victory after Kyle Williams blocked a three-point attempt in the closing seconds. But unlike the previous meeting, Williams and senior forward Justin Williams didn’t take over the game. The two combined for 19 points Tuesday night, 14 of which came from Williams. The Gators managed to comeback on a three-goal scoring streak after slow start
St. Paul's girls soccer team rebounded from a home loss earlier in the week to defeat Catholic High, 3-2, Friday at Herring Run Park. A Patch summary of games you might have missed from Oct. 11 – 15.
As the temperature begins to drop, the Lions seem to be heating up. Most of the school's sports teams have brought home decisive wins this week. Boys varsity soccer was the only blemish to the fall sports lineup after dropping to Franklin High School 1-0 at home on Wednesday. However, girls varsity soccer dampened Franklin High's spirits Wednesday as the school celebrated senior day. Three goals from three different players were more than enough to blank the Indians after a strong defensive performance kept Franklin pinned on their own half for much of the game. Field hockey planted a flag at home Wednesday evening after registering eight goals at home against Loch Raven who only managed to net one. Volleyball managed to sweep yet another …
