BGE Anticipating Several Hundred Thousand Power Outages

Officials from the utilities company announced Saturday that the outages may last several days.

Baltimore Gas and Electric officials announced Saturday that several hundred thousand outages are expected as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The outages could last several days, according to a news release from the utilities company. About 1,300 of the recruited 2,000 out-of-state utility workers are scheduled to arrive Sunday, ahead of the storms, the release said. The remainder is expected to arrive throughout the week. The workers are setting up at bases across the state including BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, M&T Bank Stadium, Timonium Fairgrounds and Ripken Stadium. ComEd, BGE's sister company based in Chicago, is also assisting with preparation and restoration efforts. BGE officials urge residents to call 1-877-778-2222 to report …

Testimony, Complaints Heard at Derecho Storm Hearing

The Maryland Public Service Commission has conducted a series of hearings as part of its investigation into how the state's utility companies responded to the storm.

Baltimore Gas and Electric Company customers in Baltimore County voiced their grievances with the state’s largest utility Thursday night, demanding changes in future restoration efforts. The Maryland Public Service Commission, which is currently investigating the state’s power suppliers’ storm preparedness, sought input in Towson, following the late June derecho storm that left 748,000 BGE customers without power.  It took BGE eight days to fully bring 62 percent of its statewide customer base back onto the grid.  In Baltimore County, speakers—most of whom had experiences with outages lasting beyond four days—said they were frustrated with the company.  “This is clearly an indication that the Towson area requires much more attention from …

Power Restored Following Friday's Storms

BGE restored power to more than 32,000 customers through Sunday morning

(UPDATED 11:00 a.m, Sunday) Power has been restored to practically all of the more than 32,000 BGE customers that were left without power following Friday night's severe storms. BGE reports that it has completed al its restoration work that began Friday when storms, which included at least nine confirmed tornado in Anne Arundel County near Thurgood Marshall BWI Airport, came through the region. According to a news release, BGE said it had 700 workers of its own, along with 69 contractor utility workers from Exelon sister company PECO assisting in the efforts.
