ShopRite Provides Outlet For Sandy Donations

ShopRite has set up an online donation initiative for disaster relief.

ShopRite is making giving easier this Thanksgiving season. ShopRite Supermarkets Inc., which operates 32 groceries in New York and New Jersey, was hit particularly hard by Superstorm Sandy. The brand has been updating its Facebook page in the wake of the storm with information about ways to help and the status of dozens of stores that lost power during the storm.  The grocery co-op/chain has in the last two weeks donated thousands of meals and non-perishable items to local food banks, as well as pledged up to $1 million in relef efforts, according to its Facebook page.  Now it's your turn.  Customers can donate to Sandy relief initiative through the ShopRite website. ShopRite Hosting Healthy Eating Events for Moms, Kids, Seniors

Registered dietitian Erin Peisach will host the events, mostly from the supermarket's Timonium location.

The Timonium ShopRite supermarket is hosting a series of healthy eating related events through the month of May, which is designated Women's Health and Celiac Awareness Month. ShopRite—the newest supermarket to open in the Timonium area—is asking customers to join the fight against hunger.  How? With just one click.  No need to bring in food, or donate cans—ShopRite will take care of all that. All you have to do is "like" or become a fan of the local grocery store's Facebook, here. Between now and Jan. 21, every new "like" received will count toward a one-can donation (up to 50,000 cans) from the grocery co-op for the 41st annual Can Can Sale. ShopRite Timonium Announces 2012 Culinary Classes

  ShopRite Timonium has announced its 2012 Culinary Workshop series, with an emphasis on healthy eating in the new year.  The two- or three-hour classes are held every Tuesday night between Jan. 10 and March 27 at 37 W. Aylesbury Rd. in Timonium.  Sessions include recipes for NFL playoff game days and the Super Bowl, as well as cooking for your special someone around Valentine's Day, among others. ShopRite Promotes Healthy Holiday Event Series

The newly opened supermarket wants you to enjoy your holidays without packing on the holiday pounds that come with gingerbread cookies and Figgy pudding. Timonium ShopRite Raises Money to Feed the Hungry

Local dignitaries and Ridgely Middle School administrators participate in "Bag Hunger," a fund-raising event meant to aid local food banks.

Village Supermarkets, the umbrella co-op under which resides the new Timonium ShopRite, has raised $166,108.50 for local food kitchens from events like yesterday afternoon’s "Bag Hunger" fund-raiser. Wednesday’s fund-raiser featured local dignitaries, as well as administrators from Ridgely Middle School, who assisted in bagging groceries and encouraging shoppers to donate to the Partners in Caring Program.  Ridgely Middle School principal Susan Evans said the event was a good opportunity to act as a role-model for public school students who are required to complete 75 hours of community service in order to graduate. “We know that there are families that are struggling and with the economy the way that it is, we’re just trying to help and …

New Timonium ShopRite Will Open July 31, Replacing Superfresh

The food chain is expanding in Maryland with two new stores opening this month.

Supermarket chain ShopRite will open a new store in Timonium on July 31 at the site of the recently closed Superfresh grocery at the Fairgrounds Plaza shopping center, the new owner announced July 20. ShopRite plans a splashy grand opening, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring local officials and special offerings for first-time shoppers, spokeswoman Kate McAllen Bowers said. The opening represents part of a major expansion of ShopRite into the Maryland market. ShopRite will open a second store in the state on the same day in the Washington, D.C. suburb of White Oak, and plans are in place for other ShopRite locations to open next year, according to local grocery retailing expert Robert Gorland.  The former Timonium Superfresh store …
