Calvert Hall Delivers Knock Out Punch Late, 21-14

A long touchdown pass late in the game secured the victory for the Cardinals.

When Calvert Hall quarterback Colar Kuhns dropped back to pass deep in his own territory with 1:35 left in a tie game, the 93rd Turkey Bowl had all the trimmings of an upset in the making. Despite costly turnovers and penalties, a stout Loyola squad (5-5) that refused to quit looked ready to take the Cards (7-2) into overtime. The game once again revealed that regular season records in this rivalry are meaningless. Kuhns unleashed a picturesque bomb to senior wide receiver Logan Kurek streaking down the left sideline and he outran his defender for an 83-yard game-winning touchdown. Calvert Hall prevailed, 21-14. This play, "Kuhns to Kurek" will have its place in the annals of the rivalry and will be remembered for decades to come by the …

Baltimore 'Stuffs A Bus' for MD Food Bank

Mix 106.5 radio personality Jon Boesche calls the 19th annual food drive recession-proof.

ShopRite shoppers and other Baltimore locals filled an MTA bus full of food and other non-perishable items faster than any year before, according to Mix 106.5 DJ Jon Boesche. Boesche and fellow radio personality Maria Dennis were on hand at ShopRite Saturday evening thanking generous shoppers for donating to the 19th annual Stuff A Bus food drive for the Maryland Food Bank. “I haven’t seen anything that denotes a recession or hard times. This bus has filled up quicker than any years past,” Boesche said, participating in his sixth Stuff A Bus event. He was cut off by a woman wanting to say hello after contributing an entire grocery cart full of just-bought food items. The woman handed six yellow bags to two Calvert Hall student-volunteers …

Harbaughs Take Sibling Rivalry to New Level

The head coaches will be the first brothers to compete against each other in an NFL game when the Ravens host the San Francisco 49ers on Thanksgiving.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh remembers as a child converting sleeveless T-shirts into different Big Ten uniforms and competing in makeshift football games against his younger brother, Jim. They also played basketball with a tennis ball and a wire hanger rim and threw snowballs against a tree, along with countless other contests the Harbaugh brothers would come up with. “We both competed with each other and against each other,” said John Harbaugh during a national conference call with reporters. “I know one thing: [I] couldn't have anybody tougher to compete against or anybody more challenging to compete against every single day.” That sibling rivalry will take on a whole new dimension at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at M&T Bank Stadium when John …

Underage Drinking Spikes on 'Black Wednesday'

Police are taking steps to ensure the safety of drivers over the holiday weekend.

Since when did the Wednesday before Thanksgiving become a national drinking holiday? Black Wednesday or, as some are calling it, Blackout Wednesday, has become synonymous with St. Patrick’s Day and New Year's Eve, with the heavy emphasis on imbibing alcohol. Alarmingly, underage drinking spikes this time of year, according to Fox News. The cause, they say, is fueled by college students coming home for the holidays and the abundance of alcohol stocked in their parents’ liquor cabinets for holiday parties USA Today recommends parents take a proactive approach in staving off underage drinking. ABC2 published statistics from a recent survey that found “40 percent of college students say they have participated in binge drinking in the last 2 …

LIVE TRAFFIC: Holiday Travel Made Easy

Be sure to check our map for highway conditions before heading home for Thanksgiving.

Don't let holiday traffic get between you and some turkey.  Be sure to take a look at our interactive traffic map for incident reports and traffic flow before heading out the door to start your holiday weekend.  We know some of you can't wait to get out of your cubicles and into your cars, but it would be advantageous to look over the map's up-to-the-minute congestion tracker. That is, unless you like sitting in traffic.

Purple Thursday for Many on Thanksgiving

With the Ravens set to host the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, many fans are adjusting their holiday plans accordingly.

Vivian Kerner usually is busy preparing a golden brown turkey on Thanksgiving. The 34-year-old Chase resident almost always has the holiday meal set for 4:30 p.m. at her house with her husband, two daughters and the rest of her family. But a purple and black bird has Kerner changing her plans this year. The Ravens are set to host the San Francisco 49ers in an 8:30 p.m. Thanksgiving NFL showdown at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The prime time football contest has caused many people in the Baltimore area to adjust their Thanksgiving plans accordingly, including the Kerners. “We moved our dinner back to 12:30 in the afternoon and are having it at my parents' house so that we can eat and get ready to tailgate,” Kerner said. “It’s going to be …
