Excessive Rain Caused Water Main Delay

The end date of the project affecting Lutherville-Timonium commuters was pushed backed from July to November.

Contractors working on replacing a 9,500-foot old water line under York Road have lost 60 working days due to rain, according to county officials.  Burgermeister Bell, the County’s contractor for this project, has pushed back the completion date to November, as a result.  "Every time the surface is even a little damp, the state won't let them work," Mike Mazurek, chief of water design in Baltimore County, said.  Contractors have been working on the line since April 2010.  Phase 2 of the project, currently under construction, directly affects Lutherville-Timonium commuters. The project is about 75 percent complete.  "Baltimore County’s contractors are replacing 9,500 feet of old water line in York Road, between Ridgely and Padonia Roads," the newsletter reads. "The new 24-inch line, …

I see no good excuse for this delay. We have had a Winter with no snow and very little cold, and a Spring and Summer with little rain, so, weather can't be blamed. Was the contract written so the contractor would be penalized for late completion? I doubt it. Typical Baltimore County project mis-management.   more ›
